It’s been three weeks since we launched our In This Together campaign and we’re continuing to see such an outpouring of generosity and concern from supporters. We’ve shown that together we can be there for people who are homeless for as long as this outbreak lasts, and beyond.

We launched the campaign in order to:

  • Keep our vital services running and continue to offer support to our members
  • Help grassroots homelessness organisations to stay open and deliver additional services

We’re continuing to adapt our own services to the changing needs of our members, as well as support a greater number of grassroots homelessness charities across the UK with grants. The grants have been restricted to organisations needing assistance to cope with the impact of the coronavirus and who have had to adapt their services to meet the increased need that there currently is. Organisations also now have the option to apply for larger grants to make significant permanent changes as a result of this outbreak.

We’ve been able to offer grants to nearly 50 organisations so far, with the number growing weekly. Some of the organisations we’ve been able to support include:

  • Caring in Bristol – a charity that works in imaginative and creative ways with people experiencing or at risk of homelessness. The grant will enable a change of provision to home delivery and food production with the start of a new service.
  • Wycombe Homelessness Connection – an organisation to help house homeless people and those at risk in suitable accommodation, defend the rights of homeless people and prevent homelessness before it starts. The grant will fund key advocacy work to prevent illegal evictions.
  • Zinthiya Trust – a Leicester based charity that works to alleviate abuse (supporting women and girls at risk of all types of abuse) and to provide practical support for those in poverty. The grant will go towards accommodation for women with no recourse to public funds fleeing violence.

It’s also been fantastic to hear about the impact these grants have had, such as this feedback from Signposts, an organisation based in Luton and Dunstable helping homeless people to start over:

“A HUGE thanks to Crisis who have given us £5,000 from their In This Together funding. We can now buy laptops for staff and tablets for clients self-isolating. THANK YOU!”
