Volunteer with us this Christmas in Edinburgh

Every Christmas our centres provide vital services to people at one of the hardest times of the year. At Christmas and throughout the year, we help people directly out of homelessness, and campaign for the social changes needed to solve it altogether. We know that together we can end homelessness.

Be part of our team this Christmas, and together we will end homelessness for good.

By volunteering with Crisis you can make a real difference to people experiencing homelessness. Winter can be a particularly difficult time to be homeless. There are fewer support services available, over the Christmas period, and the cold weather can be brutal for anyone living on the streets. Each year we welcome people who may otherwise have no home of their own and nowhere else to go. Six out of ten people who are homeless experience loneliness and this can be more pronounced at Christmas. For many, our centres offer a chance to relax, regain confidence and plan for the future in a supportive environment, away from the immediate hardships of homelessness.

In Edinburgh, we are open to guests 25-28 December and 1 January.

General volunteer

***Please note- our General volunteer shifts are now full***

Welcome Team

***The Welcome team is now full, except for a few places on 1 January*** Welcome Team volunteers are the first point of contact for our Christmas. It’s important that all our guests receive a warm welcome and introduction to the event, as well as understanding the house rules. It is beneficial to have good judgement, emotional intelligence and to be confident and assertive. The team is outside most of the time, so will need to wrap up warmly, but there will be lots of breaks to warm up inside with a hot drink. Welcome team volunteers need to be 21 years or over.

Christmas can be a difficult time for our guests. We are looking for volunteers with a background in mental health, counselling, social work etc to provide extra support for those who might need it. You are not providing a counselling service but your skills will be very beneficial for those guests who need someone to talk to.

Hair and Beauty Volunteer

We are looking for hairdressers, barbers and beauty therapists to help make our guests look and feel extra special this Christmas and give them the care that is often missing from their lives.

Massage Therapist Volunteer

We are looking for a team of qualified therapists to help our guests to relax and unwind with massage, therapies and natural healing services. These services are hugely valuable to our guests, helping them to rest and enjoy the event, while also providing them with some much-needed pampering. Guest facing shifts available 25 & 26 December

Volunteer Entertainer

Our Christmas event is about engaging with local homeless people and letting them enjoy Christmas in their own way. We are looking for performers, such as musicians, magicians and singers to entertain our guests (but we are also open to other ideas!).

Podiatrists and Student Podiatrists

We are looking for a team of qualified and student podiatrists to provide a foot health service for our guests (please note, all students must be supervised by a qualified podiatrist)

Workshop Leader

We are looking for Workshop leaders to provide a range of activities to our guests. Our guests are all different, with a range of interests and experiences, and our activities need to reflect this. Do you have a talent you could share? Workshop Leaders are needed to deliver fun, relaxed activities which accommodate a variety of skills, interests and numbers of participants. We're happy to hear your more unusual ideas, one of last years highlights was Beekeeping! (with a dormant hive).

Driving volunteers create an enjoyable atmosphere for guests as they engage during trips and help with donation logistics. Must be aged 25-65 (for insurance purposes) with a full UK driver’s licence and experience driving vans
