APPGEH meeting: Is the Government on track to end rough sleeping by 2024?

On 19 July we held our third and final evidence session on whether the Government is on track to meet their manifesto commitment to end rough sleeping by 2024. We discussed what policies are needed to sustain an end or prevent any future rises in rough sleeping in England, and considered what the Government’s priorities should be beyond 2024, for example, committing to ending wider forms of homelessness.

Alongside our Co-Chair Flo Eshalomi we were joined by:
- Rebecca Sycamore is Interim CEO of St Mungo’s, having worked in the homelessness sector for over 20 years.
- Anne spoke about the support she received from the council when faced with homelessness and the importance of high-quality mental health support to prevent and end it.
- Jennie Corbett is Senior Policy Manager at Homeless Link, which is the national membership charity for organisations who work directly with people who become homeless in England.
- Julie spoke about her experience of homelessness and temporary accommodation since leaving prison.
- Ellie Greenhalgh is Women’s Development Unit Manager at Solace Women’s Aid. Ellie works on this joint project between Solace Women’s Aid and The Connection at St Martin’s which looks to work across sectors to develop a pan-London women’s homelessness strategy.
- Ian Swift is Director of Housing Needs and Strategy at Islington Council.
