Crisis responds to Plaid Cymru's General Election pledges on homelessness
22.11.2019
Plaid Cymru has today launched its General Election manifesto with clear commitments on ending homelessness
In response to this announcement, Jon Sparkes, Chief Executive of Crisis, said:
“We’re delighted to see that Plaid Cymru’s manifesto for the General Election supports Crisis’ plan to end all forms of homelessness. There are also welcome pledges in Plaid’s manifesto on building more social housing, scrapping the Vagrancy Act, a Housing First approach, and addressing the gap between housing benefit and the cost of renting. We must see all party manifestos commit to ending all forms of homelessness across Wales, England and Scotland.
“Everybody in our society should have the stability of a safe home. There are currently many people experiencing homelessness now – in hostels and bed and breakfasts, sofa surfing or living on the streets. But we know it doesn’t need to be this way. Whoever forms the next Government in Westminster has the power to put in place policies and approaches for the whole of Great Britain that can help end homelessness.”
Notes
Crisis published a plan to end homelessness last year, Everybody In: How to end homelessness in Great Britain. The plan sets out the government policies and approaches needed to end homelessness across England, Scotland and Wales, and is mentioned on page 43 of the Plaid Cymru manifesto published today.
