About our Skylight centre in Brent

At Crisis Skylight Brent, we offer centre-based support to individuals who are experiencing homelessness or are at risk of experiencing homelessness. We support single adults who do not have dependent children and young people aged 16 and above. We provide housing support to our members as well as support related to:

  • Employment
  • Opportunities for personal development, education, and volunteering
  • ESOL lessons and digital skills training
  • Access to medical services
  • Social activities including coffee mornings, gardening, and more
  • Access to facilities including showers and laundry services

The Skylight in Brent has recently moved to a new and expanded location on the High Street, so we will be expanding our volunteering programmes to make the best use of our new space and best support our members. The number of people found rough sleeping in Brent in 2022/2023 was approximately 373, an increase from approximately 283 people found rough sleeping in Brent during the 2021/2022 year. Of the 373 people found rough sleeping in 2022/2023, more than 67% had never been seen rough sleeping before. More than half (53%) of individuals seen sleeping rough in 2022/2023 had mental health support needs.

In Brent, we support a diverse group of members. We are particularly in need of volunteers to join our team who have Amharic, Tigrigna, or Arabic language skills.

Volunteering in Brent

We’re looking for volunteers who are compassionate, enthusiastic, and want to make a difference. Every volunteer role in our Skylights contributes to ending people’s homelessness, whether you’re working directly with our members or helping the office team run the service efficiently.

You will be supported by the Skylight’s Volunteer & Involvement Lead, and by a volunteer supervisor assigned for your role. You’ll work alongside other volunteers who are also passionate about ending homelessness.
