Caroline's Story

"Charity work is in my blood; from travelling to South Africa as a wide eyed teenager, supporting in a rural school, to a multitude of dental missions in Africa and Cambodia. The gift of giving without receiving is a feeling you can’t buy and to be honest, it’s pretty addictive.

My first involvement with Crisis was actually in London for Crisis at Christmas back in 2008. I volunteered as part of the dental team while I was studying to be a Dental Therapist. Fast forward 14 years, a friend tagged me in a Facebook post from Crisis, looking for local volunteers at the Newcastle Skylight.

I jumped at the chance and offered my services as an oral wellness volunteer, realising quite quickly I had other talents best suited for the amazing set of members I met on my first day.

Wellness day number two saw me offering a day of bespoke 20 minute Indian head massages for the members. Having trained in other complementary therapies over my career, I knew the power of touch, but I didn’t realise what could be achieved in as little as 20 minutes.

The feedback I get from the members is heartwarming and my list is always full when I come back for the quality wellness days. It’s something that I truly look forward to in my calendar and I’ve absolutely loved getting to know the members.

I believe we all have an innate gift to bring to the world. Providing a safe space for people to feel valued and cared for is the first step to a brighter future for everyone.

Thank you Crisis for all that you do and allowing me to be part of the magic.”

By sharing stories we can change attitudes and build a movement for permanent, positive change. Stand against homelessness and help us end it for good.
