Lloyds Banking Group and Crisis Partnership

We’re partnering with Lloyds Banking Group to help tackle the chronic shortage of good quality, affordable homes in Great Britain.

As part of our report Home is where the start is: The case for ending homelessness with homes, we revealed that 1.8 million low income households are living in poor conditions, including overcrowding, damp and mould. In 2022, over 200,000 families and individuals moved house and were forced to accept unsuitable or poor quality properties. In some cases, this meant that people didn’t have access to a functioning bathroom or kitchen.

It doesn’t stop there though. The data also showed that 2.5 million households are worried that in the coming year, they will either be forced into poor living conditions or will have to remain in substandard homes.

Millions of people across the UK are trapped in poor quality housing because the only realistic alternative is even worse: homelessness. This is unacceptable and why together with Lloyds Banking Group we have to tackle the problem.

What will we do together?

During our two year partnership Crisis and Lloyds Banking Group will work together to improve access to quality homes, a fundamental part of ending homelessness. We will:

1. Call for one million new social homes to be built in the next 10 years

There are many reasons why people experience homelessness, but the shortage of truly affordable, quality housing available in the UK makes a huge contribution to the growing numbers of people living in temporary accommodation, sofa surfing and rough sleeping. We urgently need more homes for people on low incomes. Together, we’re calling  for one million social homes to be built by 2033.

2. Launch a brand new not-for-profit lettings agency

During the next two years Lloyds Banking Group fundraising and expertise will support Crisis and Homes For Good to develop and launch a new not-for-profit lettings agency. The new agency will match and support tenants and landlords to make renting easier and safer. All profits will go to ensuring people experiencing homelessness can find a safe and stable home. The lettings agency will open in London later this year and it’s our ambition to then roll it out across Great Britain.

3. Work together to change lives

Lloyds Banking Group fundraising will also support our Changing Lives Grants Programme which helps people experiencing homelessness access education and employment, including starting their own business.

Why Lloyds Banking Group?

In the last six years Lloyds Banking Group has provided nearly £15 billion to the social housing sector, supporting more than 200 housing associations across the UK. This makes them the biggest funder of social housing in the UK.

Partnering with Lloyds Banking Group gives Crisis access to their considerable expertise and support. Together we will amplify our call for more affordable, quality housing. We’ll also address the shortage of housing directly. Lloyds Banking Group will offer their guidance as we launch our brand new, not-for-profit lettings agency alongside Homes For Good.

Through our partnership, we will be working closely together to ensure Lloyds Banking Group staff are equipped with the knowledge, confidence and skills to provide vital support to customers who may be experiencing homelessness, or be at risk of losing their homes. This will include equipping staff within branches to better identify and support customers at risk of homelessness and providing training on how to help people sleeping rough in the community.

Make history: a future free from homelessness

We can make a future where we all have access to safe, affordable homes a reality. But we need your help.
