07.11.2024
Crisis’ South Wales Skylight in Swansea today welcomed Cabinet Secretary for Housing and Local Government, Jayne Bryant.
The Skylight, run by national homeless charity Crisis, supports people who are at risk of or experiencing homelessness to find a stable place to call home.
The charity also offers a range of opportunities to help people develop personal and practical skills, while seeking some respite from the trauma that comes with experiencing homelessness.
Between July 2023 and June 2024, the South Wales Skylight supported 442 people on their journey out of homelessness.
During her visit, the Cabinet Secretary and Minister met with a member of the charity to talk about their experiences with homelessness. She also talked with staff about the importance of pressing ahead with proposed changes to the law to help end homelessness in Wales.
The Cabinet Secretary was given a tour of the Skylight facilities, where she appreciated the artistic talents of Crisis members.
Ashella Lewis, Director of the South Wales Skylight, said: “It’s been our pleasure to welcome the Cabinet Secretary to our Skylight today. We’re proud to support people across Swansea and Neath Port Talbot who are facing homelessness.
“In these difficult economic times, homelessness and the trauma that comes with it is affecting more and more of us.
“It was fantastic to talk with the Cabinet Secretary about the importance of continuing to work together to end homelessness in Wales. Everyone needs a safe place to call home.”
Jayne Bryant, Cabinet Secretary for Housing and Local Government said: “The range of services provided by the South Wales Skylight Centre is really impressive and I’d like to thank all staff for their care, compassion and dedication to supporting people and transforming their lives.
“Everyone deserves to have somewhere to call home and I am very grateful for Crisis’ continued support and expertise as we work to achieve our shared ambition to end all forms of homelessness in Wales.”
