How a monthly donation makes a big difference

Supporting someone to rebuild their life takes time – and consistent, compassionate support. A regular gift means we can be there month after month, helping someone move forward at their own pace.

The impact of your on-going generosity has been far reaching. In the past year, over 1,500 people, just like Eva, Zahra and Abdul, took their first steps out of homelessness through accessing settled homes and a safe place to stay.

Our generous regular givers are a vital part of the work we do. Your on-going support means we can continue to be there for people facing homelessness, all year-round.

Updates from our members

Below are updates from former Crisis members – Abdul, Eva and Zahra – who have each been able to rebuild their lives beyond homelessness, thanks to your support.

Last year, you may remember we shared how Zahra had been forced to live in unsuitable temporary accommodation with her children. Invested with cockroaches and bedbugs, with no area to cook or the necessary space for her son with autism to rest – your support helped her find safe, clean rented accommodation. But what came next?

Today, she’s made their new, permanent house, a home. She’s deep-cleaned every inch of the property, unpacked boxes, arranged bedrooms, and is managing life with her children. For her son, having his own room has been especially calming.

Zahra herself is flourishing – she recently supported a campaign raising awareness about how homelessness affects people’s health. She’s also signed up to become a Peer Health Volunteer Advocate, helping others navigate GP appointments and healthcare once they’ve accessed housing. She’s waiting to begin the training – and excited to get started!

When you last heard from Eva, she was hugging Kaz – her Crisis Lead Worker – after moving into a home of her own. The relief was immense. After 18 months of sofa surfing and three nights rough sleeping, she finally had her own front door. But thanks to your support, Eva’s story didn’t end there.

Eva has truly made her home her own – decorating every room with care and pride. With Kaz’s support, she furnished it bit by bit.

She joined classes at her Skylight centre – from jewellery-making to IT – and discovered skills she didn’t know she had, like baking!

Over time, Eva’s made friends, built confidence, and found a new rhythm to her new life; one that includes creativity, learning, joy and exercise. “I now gym and I love it!”

Now she sits in her garden chairs each morning with coffee in hand – watching the plants she’s nurtured grow.

Last time we shared Abdul’s story, he’d moved into a flat of his own after nine months sleeping rough. You supported him to find and secure that home, but that wasn’t the end of the story.

Since then, Abdul has transformed his life – volunteering at a Crisis shop, he’s even started volunteering extra shifts! And he now also runs every day – looping through a park.

His flat is run with care and order – thanks to life skills support from Crisis. “Now I go on my laptop, read the meter and submit it online. Knowing how to do all that has made life easier.”

But best of all, his flat is filled with plants. He calls it his sanctuary – and it really is.

You didn’t just help someone find a home. You helped them stay – and thrive.
