The Worshipful Company of Cooks is one of London’s oldest Livery Companies. The Cooks Fund supports projects involving education, training and community welfare and have supported Crisis since 1989, with a focus on the “Cafe from Crisis” London training programme over the last nine years.
Cafe from Crisis operates as a social enterprise and helps homeless people gain the skills and experience they need to find employment in the catering and hospitality industry. Our trainees learn food preparation, cooking, barista skills and front of house management.
The Cooks have given funding towards new kitchen equipment to ensure our training programme operates efficiently and professionally, and provided vital support for new ventilation and electrics in the kitchen during our major Cafe refurbishment in 2010.
Equally important has been their understanding of the need for support with the cafe training costs, which has allowed us to deliver a high quality training programme and support people back into work.
The Cooks’ involvement with the Cafe extends beyond funding - they have been very helpful critical friends, arranged a visit from a Michelin starred chef, provided professional advice during our refurbishment, and introduced us to partners within the industry.
We are very grateful for their generous and loyal support.
“The Cooks Company is delighted to offer support to the Cafe from Crisis – both in terms of monetary grants and non-financial assistance through advice and encouragement. The excellent work that Crisis undertakes through the Cafe in training homeless people in hospitality skills is right at the heart of our charitable purpose and we are really gratified by the positive outcomes that have been achieved.”
